If you weren’t able to attend the MLA meeting (or even if you did attend the MLA meeting!) you might be interested to know that many of the posters from the meeting are available online at: http://posterexperience.com/index.php
Â
MLA is pilot-testing this new online application that allows people to easily search, pan across, and zoom in on any of the posters that are on MLANET. Â Â Additionally, authors have the option to add media such as video, interactive data graphics, and animations to their poster.
Â
Please note that while this option was given to all poster presenters, not all poster authors submitted their posters. But there are a lot of posters there so check it out!
Â
Also, since MLA is pilot-testing this software be sure to let MLA know what you think of it. You can use the Feedback link on the webpage, or give your feedback to me.
Â
Thanks,
Â
- Melissa

I have uploaded a draft copy of the minutes from our business meeting in Chicago. Please review and send comments to me at judy.spak@yale.edu. The minutes will be submitted for official approval at the EMTS Business Meeting on May 19th.
MLA is working with AALL (Amer Assoc of Law Libraries) and SLA to develop testimony requesting that the current DMCA exemption regarding the use of A/V works be broadened. Specifically they want the use to be broadened to include A/V works in any university or college library (it is currently written for just libraries in film or media studies departments) and also in any field of study (it is currently written for just media studies and film professors).
Do any of the instructors at your institutions use excerpts from audiovisual works in their instruction of students? Some examples might be House, Scrubs, ER, The Practice. MLA Headquarters specifically is looking for the actual clips, they would like to use them in the testimony. And they need to receive the clips by Monday (May 4th).
If you have clips you can share, please contact Mary Langman directly.Â
I am pleased to announce that the winners of our inaugural EMTS Annual Meeting Attendance Grant have been selected! They are:

The committee is particularly pleased that the winners include a colleague who is just beginning their MLA career as well as an experienced librarian exploring new and interesting technologies to enhance research. This is exactly what this grant was aiming to achieve - encouraging our colleagues interested in educational technologies to attend the MLA Annual Meeting and to learn and contribute to the profession as a whole.
Congratulations to Emily and Diane!!

One of our goals for the 2008-2009 year was to create a sustainable award that would encourage attendance of EMTS members at the annual meetings. While we are not the wealthiest section in MLA, we thought it important to use our money in this way not only to help the members of our section, but also to enhance the experience of MLA at large by our awardees’ attendance.
The section will award up to two individuals $250 each to support attendance at the MLA annual meeting. Applicants must be a current member of EMTS. Priority is given to applicants presenting a paper, poster, presentation or other professional commitment in the area of educational media and technology. Newer members of the EMTS section and/or of MLA are encouraged to apply.
Applications are due to Judy Spak via email by January 2nd and will be reviewed by a jury of EMTS members including both new and long-standing members to the section. The application is available on the EMTS website.
Ad Hoc Committee for Annual Meeting Grant:
